
Brooks Earns Second Consecutive Big Ten Gymnast of the Year Honor

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Senior Sierra Brooks of the University of Michigan women's gymnastics team was named the 2023 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year on Saturday night (March 18), the conference announced following the conclusion of the Big Ten Championships.
The honor is the second of Brooks' career as she also earned the honor in 2022. She is just the third Michigan gymnast to earn the honor twice or more, joining Beth Wymer, who was a three-time gymnast of the year and Sarah Cain, who earned the award twice.
Along with Brooks, Wymer and Cain, seven other Wolverines have received the honor: Wendy Marshall (1996), Elise Ray (2005), Lindsey Bruck (2008), Kylee Botterman (2011), Joanna Sampson (2013), Nicole Artz (2017) and Paige Zaziski (2018).
This week, Brooks became the 13th Wolverine in program history to earn first team all-conference honors on four occasions, joining Natalie Wojcik as the last U-M gymnast to do so. The Plainfield, Ill., native earned 14 event titles, including four all-around titles.
The senior all-arounder was a three-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honoree in her this season and recorded a perfect 10.0 on the vault at Rutgers, while scoring a career-high 9.975 on uneven bars against No. 1 Oklahoma.
Heading into the Big Ten Championship, Brooks ranks fifth nationally on the vault, seventh in the all-around, 17th on the beam and 18th on the uneven bars.
Outside of the gym, Brooks is the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is an outstanding student-athlete as a business administration major in the Ross School of Business with a minor in entrepreneurship.
Brooks and the rest of the Michigan squad waits to learn the site of its NCAA Regional, which is set to start Thursday, March 30 with the final on Saturday, April 1.
