
Jemison, Saenz, Henderson, Earn Event Wins as Wolverines Close Regular Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team closed out the regular season Friday (May 5) at Indiana's Billy Hayes Invitational. Competing at the Billy Hayes Track and Field Complex, Michigan competed across all event groups.
Corinne Jemison proved her discus dominance, winning the event with a throw of 52.22 meters (171 feet, 4 inches). Her first and sixth throws, each farther than 52 meters, kept her comfortably in first place and also was a Michigan program top-10 mark. Jemison ended the event with a 13-foot lead over Indiana's Jayden Ulrich. Jemison also saw success in the shot put, taking second with a heave of 16.27 meters (53 feet, 4.5 inches). Trinity Franklin took fifth with a career-best throw of 14.40 meters (47 feet, 3 inches), though she beat her previous best on four of her six throws Friday.
Another top finish was earned by Mia Manson in the long jump. Manson lept 5.84 meters (19 feet, 2 inches) on her second jump to take fourth place. She also competed in the pole vault later in the day, taking eighth by clearing 3.78 meters (12 feet, 4.75 inches). Cate Visscher had a strong performance in the pole vault as well, claiming fourth place and clearing 3.93 meters (12 feet, 10.75 inches) to match her career-best. In the high jump, Gabi Newman cleared a height of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) to earn her a ninth-place finish.
Henderson earned another win for the Wolverines in the 200 meters. The freshman's time of 24.37 seconds was a career best, marking her first career win. Another win came on the track for Samantha Saenz in the 1,500 meters, running a career-best time of 4:20.39. Katelynne Hart also ran a strong race, finishing fourth with a time of 4:31.24. Delaney Stersic also competed on the track, taking third in the 400 meters with a time of 56.61.
The Wolverines will return to Bloomington next week to kick of the postseason at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, Friday through Sunday (May 12-14) at Indiana's Billy Hayes Track and Field Complex.
