
Wolverines Drop Pitchers' Duel in Regular-Season Finale at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The University of Michigan softball team fell to Minnesota, 2-0, in a pitchers' duel in its regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon (May 7) at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.
The Golden Gophers scored their runs on RBI singles in the first and fifth innings to earn the second shutout win of the weekend and complete the series sweep.
Michigan scattered five hits of its own but only twice put a runner in scoring position. Graduate student first baseman Melina Livingston led the Wolverines with two hits, including a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, but was stranded at third base to end the game.
Minnesota ace Autumn Pease tossed her second gem of the series, striking out seven while allowing the five U-M hits and no walks. For her part of the duel, sophomore RHP Lauren Derkowski (18-13) fanned three and allowed two runs on eight hits and no walks.
Michigan (26-24, 10-13 Big Ten) will open postseason play at the Big Ten Tournament against Penn State at 1:30 p.m. CDT next Wednesday (May 10) at Eichelberger Field in Champaign-Urbana, Ill.
