ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team will take an international trip later this summer (Aug. 14-24) to Italy and Croatia, J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Women's Basketball Coach Kim Barnes Arico announced on Thursday (July 6).
"There is nothing like the experience of going on an international trip as a program," Barnes Arico said. "The time you get to spend with each other is invaluable for building a team and your culture, while gaining extra practice time and competition in preparation for the upcoming season. For many of these student-athletes, it is their first time traveling to another country and is a life-changing experience.
"We are so thankful for the support of our donors and alumni who help make these trips possible. We know we would not have these opportunities without them."
The Wolverines will depart on Aug. 14, flying overnight to Naples before busing to Sorrento for a four-day stay on the Amalfi Coast.
Michigan will head to Rome on Aug. 18, where the Maize and Blue will play a pair of games against Humber College out of Toronto. The Wolverines will have the opportunity to visit the Colosseum, Pantheon, Roman Forum, the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Square during their time in the Eternal City.
U-M will conclude its trip with three days in Dubrovnik, Croatia, flying there on Aug. 21. Michigan will play its final game while in Croatia, facing ŽKK Ragusa Dubrovnik on Aug. 22. Sights on the docket for the Wolverines include Old City and City Walls.
The Wolverines will fly back to the United States on Aug. 24, landing in the evening.
U-M will practice 10 times in Ann Arbor in preparation for the trip, beginning those practices in mid-July. This marks the third international trip for the Wolverines, who went abroad in 2013 and 2017.
