MALIBU, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer used a second-half scoring stretch to rally to a 2-2 draw against Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon (Aug. 19) at Rokus Field.
Pepperdine (0-0-1) got on the board first in the 22nd minute on a penalty-kick goal from Skylar Enge. Wave attacker Tori Waldeck was taken down just inside the 18-yard box, resulting in a spot kick that was awarded to Enge. Michigan goalkeeper Stephanie Sparkowski guessed correctly diving to her right, but the shot was just outside her outstretched fingertips.
The Wolverines (0-1-1) leveled the score in the 46th minute, as senior Kacey Lawrence's shot on goal with venom was spilled inside the box. Freshman Gabrielle Prych picked up the loose ball in front of the goal and finished for her first collegiate goal to level things at 1.
Just under seven minutes later, Lawrence was at the center of the action again, picking a Pepperdine defender clean inside the Wave defensive third. Following a few touches, she sent a ball to classmate Sammi Woods on the left wing just inside the 18-yard box and finished lower-right. The marker was the 17th of her U-M career.
Four minutes later, Pepperdine leveled the score off a set-piece chance. Enge's spot-kick service from the top-left of the box went inside the six and was slotted home by Tatum Wynalda in front to equal the tally at 2.
After being outshot 8-2 in the first half, U-M found its bearings, outpacing the Wave 8-7 in the second half. Woods, Lawrence and Prych all had two shots apiece.
