The University of Michigan women's soccer team (0-1-1) concludes its season-opening three-match road trip with a contest at No. 5 Virginia (2-0) on Thursday (Aug. 24) at 8:15 p.m. at Klockner Stadium. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
Notes
• Freshman forward Gabrielle Prych scored her first collegiate goal against Pepperdine on Saturday (Aug. 19), and also earned a started nod at central forward against USC last Friday (Aug. 17). The start is the first for a freshman central forward since Nkem Ezurike in 2012.
• Junior holding midfielder Avery Kalitta and defender Tamia Tolbert have stood out through two matches. Kalitta has won 38 duels and 33 ball recoveries to go along with 81 percent passing accuracy. Tolbert has won 20 duels with 15 recoveries and has completed 85 percent of her passes.
• Through two matches, U-M has played 18 student-athletes, including six newcomers. Two upperclassmen in Syah Mangat and Abby Zugay have made their U-M debuts. Of the group, Prych (USC) and Zugay (Pepperdine) have started matches.
• The Wolverines scored twice against Pepperdine in a span of 5:42, U-M's shortest stretch between goals since Sept. 11, 2022 at Toledo. The 7-2 win over the Rockets featured markers from Meredith Haakenson, Sammi Woods and Sarah Bridenstine (4:13).
• U-M is in the midst of starting the season with three straight road matches, marking the first time that has occurred since the 2008 season. Home games in the 2008 campaign were contested in Ypsilanti and Canton due to delays in the construction of U-M Soccer Stadium.
• The Wolverines boast five wins over top-five teams in school history, with the last coming during the 2021 season over No. 4 Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 7, 2021).
• This will be the second all-time matchup between the Wolverines and Cavaliers. The first came on Nov. 29, 2013 against No. 1-ranked Virginia, with U-M falling by a 2-1 score line in Charlottesville. The two sides have played exhibition matches each of the last two seasons, with U-M falling in 2021 and playing to a 1-1 draw in 2022.
