
Wolverine Women to Open 2023 Season at Michigan Open

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team will kick off its 2023 season by hosting the Michigan Open at on Friday (Sept. 1) at 5:30 p.m. at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich.

• The Michigan women look to build off a 2022 season that saw them finish second at the Big Ten Championships and 22nd at the NCAA Championships.
• Michigan checks in at No. 5 in the Great Lakes region. Notre Dame tops the rankings, and conference foes Ohio State (No. 2), Michigan State (No. 3) and Wisconsin (No. 3) make up the top five.
• The Wolverines return four of their top five runners from last year's NCAA Championships highlighted by All-Big Ten second-team honoree Sam Tran, who finished 10th at the Big Ten Championships and 100th overall at the NCAA Championships.
• Samantha Saenz is set to make her season debut for the Wolverines. Last year, Saenz finished third on the squad at the Big Ten Championships and 22nd overall.
• Michigan returns two more members of its Big Ten Championships roster in Samantha Hastie and Kayla Windemuller. Both finished in the top 35 overall at the Big Ten Championships and bolstered the Wolverines' second-place effort.
• U-M added sophomore Lani Bloom to its roster for 2023, transferring in from Purdue.
• Freshman Hannah Pricco will make her collegiate debut at the Michigan Open. In high school, Pricco earned all-state recognition in all four seasons at Lansing Catholic.
• Joining Bloom and Pricco as newcomers to the lineup are six sophomores: Abby Bonnema, Leah Hill, Mara Longenecker, Lisa Luecke, Rylee Tolson and Ainsley Workman.
• Following the Michigan Open, the Wolverines will head to Madison, Wis., for the Badger Open on Sept. 9.
