BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team earned a point in the Big Ten Conference standings as it played to a scoreless draw at Indiana on Tuesday evening (Sept. 26) at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Freshman Isaiah Goldson made a career-best seven saves in goal to secure the tie and the conference point for the Wolverines (2-3-4, 1-0-2 Big Ten), while Quin Rogers put two shots on goal. The Michigan defense staved off an aggressive late attack from the Hoosiers (3-3-3, 0-1-2 Big Ten) as Nolan Miller and Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi blocked back-to-back shots with less than a minute to play in route to the draw.
Michigan's defensive cohort stifled Indiana's first offensive attack as Goldson made a huge diving save to his left and the defense kicked it out for a corner, keeping the match scoreless. The Wolverines earned a corner kick in the 39th minute of the match and Rogers lined up a shot outside the 18-yard box that was saved by the keeper as the match remained 0-0.
U-M picked up its offensive threats as Rogers followed it up with his second shot in less than a minute and Al-Hasnawi had a shot blocked in the 41st minute. The Hoosiers thought they had taken a 1-0 lead into the halftime break but were called offsides in the final seconds as the match remained scoreless after 45 minutes.
The Wolverines tallied four shots with three on goal in the first half, while Goldson made two saves.
Goldson continued to be force between the pipes as he made back-to-back saves in the 60th minute, including punching one out above the crossbar. Michigan looked to light up the scoreboard in the 83rd minute on a Joao Paulo Ramos shot but it was knocked out of bounds by the Indiana keeper.
Indiana attacked in the final minute of the match, but Miller and Al-Hasnawi blocked the final shot attempts of the match.
Michigan returns to Ann Arbor om Sunday (Oct. 1) at 3 p.m. when it hosts Wisconsin for a Big Ten contest at U-M Soccer Stadium.
