
Michigan to Resume Regular-Season Play Hosting Stonehill

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (8-7-3) resumes regular-season play this weekend, welcoming first-year program Stonehill (0-20) to Yost Ice Arena. The teams face off on Friday (Jan. 12) and Saturday (Jan. 13) at 7 p.m., with both games streaming on B1G+.
Notes
• It marks 41 days between regular-season games as Michigan last hit the ice on Dec. 2-3 at Notre Dame. The Wolverines split the series before its Big Ten bye week and the holidays.
• Stonehill, location in Easton, Mass., is 0-20 in its inaugural season of Division I hockey. Michigan will be its first-ever Big Ten opponent.
• The Wolverines earned a 5-1 exhibition win over the U.S. National Team Development Prograp U-18 squad last Saturday (Jan. 6). It marked the season debut of Ethan Edwards, who returned from injury. Edwards scored twice and had one assist, while Dylan Duke and T.J. Hughes each tallied a goal and an assist.
• A week ago, Rutger McGroarty, Gavin Brindley, Seamus Casey and Frank Nazar III captured gold at the World Junior Championships. Nazar set the record for most assists in a tournament by a Michigan player with eight. Brindley's 10 points are the second most by a Wolverine, only behind Mike Cammalleri's 11 for Canada in 2002. McGroarty closed out his WJC experience with 16 points, the second most by a Wolverine in his WJC career.
• Through 18 games last season, Michigan was 11-6-1, its power play was 26.7 percent, its goals-against average was 3.11 and had a faceoff win percentage .484. This season, its power play is at 31.5 percent, is averaging 2.94 goals against and has won 54.3 percent of its draws through 18 games.
• The Wolverines are fifth in the nation in scoring offense, averaging four goals per game. Casey leads the team in scoring with 23 points on four goals and a team-high 19 assists. Hughes has 22 points and Duke has 20. Brindley, Nazar and McGroarty follow with 18 points apiece. Brindley has the most goals on the team with 10.
• Converting on 31.5 percent of its power-play opportunities, Michigan is ranked second in the nation, behind Princeton's 34.9 percent. The Wolverines have scored on 23 of 73 opportunities with Hughes leading the way with 15 power-play points and five power-play goals.
