
U-M Falls to No. 7 Indiana in Tough Senior Day Battle at Canham

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team fought hard but came up short against No. 7 Indiana by a score 152-148 on Friday (Jan. 19) at Canham Natatorium.
U-M got Senior Day off to a strong start as the 200-yard medley relay team of Casey Chung, Natalie Kan, Brady Kendall and Lindsay Flynn logged a time of 1:38.35 to take top spot.
The Wolverines had a solid showing in the 200-yard freestyle with Stephanie Balduccini and Katie Crom taking second and third with times of 1:46.69 and 1:47.80, respectively.
Chung continued her excellent meet with a win in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 54.07 seconds. Freshman Lexi Greenhawt finished second with a mark of 54.40.
Devon Kitchel and Kan took second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke, registering times of 1:02.98 and 1:03.10, respectively.
Hannah Bellard stepped up in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the event with a time of 1:58.84. Crom chipped in with a third-place result in a time of 2:00.37.
Freshman phenom Stephanie Balduccini secured the victory in the 100 free with a time of 48.49, meeting the NCAA 'B' standard. Flynn took third with a time of 49.58.
The 500 free was a hotly contested race with Crom coming out on top with a time of 4:47.73.
Michigan swept the 100 fly as Kendall, Anna Boemer and Kan took the top three spots. Kendall grabbed the win with a mark of 53.25, and Boemer (53.62) and Kan (54.24) finished second and third, respectively.
Balduccini kept the momentum going by winning the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:00.70. Kitchel turned in a strong time of 2:01.77 to finish third.
In diving, Kiarra Milligan led the way for the Wolverines, finishing third in the three-meter dive with a score of 332.78.
U-M has a quick turnaround, traveling to Columbus, Ohio, for Saturday's (Jan. 20) noon matchup against No. 5 Ohio State at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
