
Wolverines Finish First at Simmons-Harvey Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team earned a first-place finish at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 20), scoring a total of 138 points and included 16 podium finishes and 13 personal bests.
Aasia Laurencin had another strong meet, winning the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.18 seconds. The time ranks No. 7 in the NCAA this season.
In the 60-meter dash, BreeAna Bates opened her season with a second-place finish (7.48) while Amare Harlan finished sixth with a time of 7.60.
Sidney Green ran the 400-meter dash in 54.97 seconds, posting the No. 19 NCAA time in her debut season to finish second, and Trinity Henderson finished second the 200-meter dash (24.28) with the No. 47 time in the NCAA. Henderson's time was 0.04 seconds behind the No. 10 time in program history.
U-M earned 13 points in the 800-meter run as Penelopea Gordon finished second (2:06.23), Cassie Kearney finished fourth (2:07.29) and Lani Bloom finished sixth (2:08.20). All three runners recorded personal bests in the event.
Samantha Hastie and Samantha Saenz each contributed 10 points on the day, with Hastie winning the mile (4:45.07) and Saenz winning the 3,000-meter (9:28.93). Rylee Tolson's third-place finish of 9:29.85 in the 3,000m contributed six points and was a personal best.
The jumpers saw four podium finishes, with Riley Ammenhauser leading the group. She finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 12.58m (41 feet, 3.25 inches) and second in the long jump (5.62m/18 feet, 5.25 inches), while Nadia Saunders finished second (12.62m/41 feet, 5 inches) in the triple jump. Gabi Newman set a personal best in the high jump, clearing 1.70m (5 feet, 7 inches) for a third-place finish.
Graduate transfer Maria Deaviz won the shot put and tied the No. 5 program mark (16.17m/53 feet, 0.75 inches), posting the No. 22 mark in the NCAA. Corinne Jemison finished third in the event with a mark of 16.17m (52 feet, 5.25 inches).
The Maize and Blue will close out a three-meet homestand, hosting the Michigan Invitational next Friday and Saturday (Jan. 26-27) at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Competition is slated to begin at noon on Friday (Jan. 26) and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 27).
