
McNamara Proves Strong on Day One of Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team had a strong performance during the first day of the Michigan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 26), with Clare McNamara's second-place pentathlon finish highlighting the effort.
McNamara set three career-bests on the day, clearing 1.63m in the high jump and throwing 13.07m in the shot put in addition to her pentathlon finish. Her final score of 3,691 total points on the day stands just six points shy of tying the No. 10 score in program history.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Aasia Laurencin ran a season-best and the ninth-fastest time in the NCAA (8.15 seconds) to take second in the preliminaries and advance to the finals tomorrow afternoon. BreeAna Bates finished second in the 60-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 7.53 seconds, while Laurencin finished fifth with a time of 7.61 seconds. Both advanced to the final round tomorrow.
The Wolverines will close out the Michigan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 27) with competition slated to begin at 11 a.m.
