ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 14-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team hosts No. 3 Wisconsin this Friday and Saturday (Jan. 27-28) in a two-game series at Yost Ice Arena. Both games will begin at 7 p.m. and will be streamed live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan holds an 87-69-14 record in the all-time series with Wisconsin. In Ann Arbor, it tilts to 47-21-9 in favor of U-M. The Badgers snapped Michigan's five-game series win streak in November, taking two one-goal games.
• Michigan split last weekend with in-state rival Michigan State, with each team winning on the road. The Wolverines took a 7-1 game at Munn Ice Arena on Friday night (Jan. 19) before falling 7-5 at Yost on Saturday (Jan. 20) after holding a 4-1 advantage in the second period. Overall, Michigan is 11-8-3 overall and sits in fifth place in the Big Ten standings with 15 points.
• Rutger McGroarty was named the Big Ten First Star of the week after leading the nation in scoring last weekend. The sophomore collected three goals and five assists for eight points in the split with the Spartans. He leads the nation in points per game (1.82) and assists per game (1.29).
• T.J. Hughes matches McGroarty in points with 31, his coming in 22 games to average 1.41 points per game. Last weekend, he had a five-point series and he -- along with Dylan Duke -- paces the team in power-play goals with six each.
• Seamus Casey is third on the team in scoring with 30 points in 22 games. He ranks second in the nation in scoring by a defenseman with five goals and 25 assists. He leads the team in plus/minus at +13 and is second on the team in blocks with 28.
• Michigan's power play is humming at 36.6 percent, ranked No. 1 in the nation and went 5-for-12 against MSU. For comparison's sake, the next-best team in the Big Ten is Minnesota at 27.6 percent.
• Michigan continues to boast one of the top scoring offenses in the country, averaging 4.68 goals per game to sit second nationally behind Denver. The Wolverines are 8-1 when scoring four goal or more.
• When leading after the first period, Michigan is undefeated at 6-0-2.
• The 11-member sophomore class accounts for 63 percent of the team's point production, with 57 goals and 103 assists.
