ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team opened the two-day Michigan Invitational on Friday (Jan. 26) with strong performances all around.
The sprinters led U-M's effort to open the meet, with Dante Bassham and Amit Rutman both setting career bests in the 60-meter dash. Bassham's time of 6.81 seconds and Rutman's 6.94 seconds will put them in the finals tomorrow afternoon.
Benny Diaz also set a personal best, running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.10 seconds to advance to the finals tomorrow.
In the long jump, Berachiah Ajala finished third with a mark of 6.99m. Cole Sheldon cleared 4.66m in the pole vault to finish seventh while Eli Winter finished eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 19.67m.
The Wolverines will close out the Michigan Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 27) with competition slated to begin at 11 a.m.
