
Wilson Has Big Night, Wolverines Place Fourth in Mean Girls Super 16

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team finished fourth with a 195.875 in the second session of the Mean Girls Super 16 Gymnastics Championships on Friday (Jan. 5) at the Orleans Arena.
Oklahoma earned the win with a 197.850, Kentucky placed second with a 196.775 and MSU took the third-place spot with a 196.300.
Gabby Wilson paced U-M in its first meet of the season with three 9.900s, placed second on the floor and tied for third on the beam, while Reyna Guggino went 9.850 on the vault to lead the Wolverines. As a team, Michigan went 49.350 on the uneven bars with three 9.900s coming from Wilson, Carly Bauman and Sierra Brooks. Â
The Wolverines sat in third after the first rotation with Brooks going 9.850 in the five spot and Wilson closing out the rotation with a 9.900 to lift the team score to a 49.050. Oklahoma and Kentucky tied for first with matching 49.350s and MSU had a 48.800 through one rotation.
Guggino paced U-M on the vault with a 9.850 and Naomi Morrison earned a 9.825 in the second rotation as Michigan continued to trail OU and Kentucky with a 97.925 after two complete rotations.
U-M came up big on the uneven bars with three 9.900s from Bauman, Wilson and Brooks, while Jacey Vore scored a 9.850 and Morrison went 9.800 for a team score of 49.350 in the third rotation. Oklahoma continued to lead the field with a 148.450 and Kentucky maintained the second-place spot with a 147.500 through three rotations.
Wilson finished off a big night with her third 9.900 of the season but the Maize and Blue was unable to make up the difference as it placed fourth in the session.
The Wolverines will open their 2024 home campaign Friday, Jan. 12, when they welcome Stanford to Crisler Center at 6:45 p.m.
