ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's golf team closes its fall season in Greensboro, N.C., Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 14-15) for the Qubein Cup hosted by High Point. The two-day, 54-hole event is scheduled to be played at the Sedgefield Country Club, which will be set up for a par 71 and 7,078 yards.
Notes
• The Qubein Cup will be made up of 13 teams, including Charleston, Chattanooga, Coastal Carolina, Colorado State, Davidson, Furman, High Point (host), Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas A&M, UNC-Wilmington and Virginia Tech.
• With two days of play scheduled (36-18), Monday's play opens with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. After re-shuffling teams by score, Tuesday's final round is also scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. tee time start. The final round will have play at the 18th hole streamed live on ESPN+.
• U-M will travel five starters and an individual for the Qubein Cup. Seniors Hunter Thomson and Yuqi Liu combine with freshmen RJ Arone and Dean Muratore for the core of the starting five. The fifth starter will be determined during U-M's practice round between fifth-year senior Ben Hoagland and redshirt-freshman Caden Pinckes.
• Designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1926, the Sedgefield Country Club is primarily known for its golf course and the PGA Tour event it has held annually since 2008, the Wyndham Championship -- formerly the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic.
• Through five fall events, Michigan has secured two Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors. First, Thomson's victory at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational (202, -14) helped him to his second career medalist honor and gave him an exemption to play in the 2025 RBC Canadian Open (June 3-5) at the TPC of Toronto. Liu earned U-M's second accolade after he tied for medalist honors (137, -7) for a second straight year at the rain-shortened Virtues Intercollegiate.
• Michigan is averaging just under par with a 287.64 per-round score. U-M has posted six of 14 rounds under par, including a season-low 276 (-12) tallied in the second round of the Virtues Intercollegiate.
• Thomson continues to pace the Wolverines with his 70.14 scoring average. He had fired eight of his 14 rounds under par with a season-best 66 (-6) in back-to-back rounds in his win at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational. Thomson has led U-M in four of five events this season. Overall, he has led the Wolverines in 27 of his 41 career events.
• Arone has been the only Wolverine other than Thomson to start all five events this season. Arone is carrying a 72.86 scoring average, posting three top 15 finishes. Muratore has started four of five events and is right behind Arone with a 73.43 scoring average.
