
Maize and Blue Heads to Illinois for B1G Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's cross country team is set to open the postseason on Friday (Nov. 1) with the Big Ten Championships hosted by Illinois.
Notes
• Michigan remains at No. 5 in the final regular season rankings. The Great Lakes Region saw no movement in the top five, with Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Toledo ahead of U-M.
• The Wolverines ended the regular season at the EMU Fall Classic on Oct. 25 in Dexter, Mich., posting six top-10 finishes in the non-scored meet.
• Freshman Katelyn Watkins led the team's effort, earning a second-place finish (17:50.7), while Gabbie Michael finished third (17:56.0). Watkins was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, and Michael was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week for their performances.
• Hannah Pricco placed fifth (17:57.6) to round out the top five, while Abby Bonnema finished seventh (18:13.3), Ainsley Workman placed ninth (18:19.6), and Lucy Petee finished 10th (18:22.6).
• U-M finished third at the 2023 Big Ten Championships with three top-20 finishes. Kayla Windemuller was the team's top finisher, placing seventh with a time of 21:14.2. Lani Bloom finished 12th (21:35.9), and Samantha Saenz placed 18th (21:42.8). Bloom was named Freshman of the Year for her performance.
• Windemuller, Rylee Tolson, Haley Deighan, Samantha Hastie, Leah Hill, Lisa Luecke, Jadyn Zdanavage, Penelopea Gordon, Mary Caroline Heinen, Anjali Hocker Singh, Natalie VanOtteren, and Brooke Johnston are set to race.
• Deighan, Gordon, Zdanavage, Heinen, Hocker Singh, VanOtteren, and Johnston will make their Big Ten debut.
• The Maize and Blue will run a six-kilometer course at 10:35 a.m. (CT) at the Orange and Blue Golf Course in Savoy, Ill. The meet will be streamed live on the Big Ten Network.
