
Michigan Leads Georgia Tech Invitational After Day One

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team wrapped up its first day of competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational atop the leaderboard with 445 points on Friday (Nov. 22) at McAuley Aquatic Center.
Auburn is second after day one with 305 points, followed by Florida State (300) and the host Yellow Jackets (282).
After the morning preliminaries, Michigan opened the first finals session with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Stephanie Balduccini, Lindsay Flynn, Brady Kendall and Claire Newman combined to clock a 1:27.21 to win the race.
Hannah Bellard and Rebecca Diaconescu were stellar in the 500-yard freestyle, taking first and second, respectively. Bellard posted a time of 4:34.77 while Diaconescu touched the wall at 4:35.03. Both times meet the NCAA 'A' standard for qualification.
Balduccini followed up her relay win with a victory in the 200-yard IM by logging a time of 1:55.82. Devon Kitchel came in third with a mark of 1:57.27.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Flynn came out on top with a time of 22.04 seconds, narrowly beating Newman, who registered a time of 22.20.
In diving, Kiarra Milligan led the way on the one-meter springboard, finishing third overall with a score of 302.20.
The Wolverines closed out night one with a second-place result in the 400-yard medley relay with Casey Chung, Kitchel, Natalie Kan and Flynn logging a time of 3:31.75.
Michigan will be back in action inside McAuley Aquatic Center on Saturday (Nov. 23) for the second day of the Georgia Tech Invitational. Preliminaries start at 10:00 a.m., and finals get underway at 5:30 p.m.
