
Wolverines Solid in Season-Opening GVSU Holiday Open

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team opened the 2024-25 season at the GVSU Holiday Open on Friday (Dec. 6) at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Freshman Alexandra Brigham was the first Wolverine to compete, running 10:38.14 in the 3,000-meter run in her Maize and Blue debut and finishing fourth in her heat.
The Wolverines took two of the top four spots in the 800-meter run, with freshman Coraline Haggarty finishing second with a time of 2:13.10 and graduate student Lucy Petee finishing fourth with a time of 2:13.85. Emma Thomas finished 10th with a time of 2:16.50.
In the mile, Mara Longenecker finished sixth (4:58.24) and Adele Havlick finished 21st (5:14.07).
In the 3,000-meter run invite section, freshman Emily Tomes led a quartet of Wolverines with an eighth-place finish (9:50.26). Anjali Hocker Singh finished 11th (9:54.67), Ainsley Workman finished 16th (10:10.34) and Natalie VanOtteren finished 18th (10:14.33).
Katelyn Watkins closed out the day in the 5,000-meter run invite section, placing 11th with a time of 17:23.22.
The Maize and Blue will open 2025 at home, hosting the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
