
DMR and Brady Medal; Michigan in Fifth After Day One at B1G Indoor Championships

GENEVA, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team earned two medals on the first day of the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday (Feb. 23), with the distance medley relay team finishing second and Tom Brady finishing third in the 5000-meter run.
The Wolverines sit in fifth place after the first day of competition, scoring 19 points through five events.
The school-record DMR team of Trent McFarland, Dubem Amene, Miles Brown and Nick Foster finished just 0.01 seconds behind the first-place team of Wisconsin, posting a time of 9:43.96 and scoring eight points for the Maize and Blue.
Brady earned bronze in the 5000-meter run (13:58.15) for six points, while Luke Venhuizen finished in eighth place with a personal best of 14:12.94 to earn one point for U-M. Owen MacKenzie was just shy of a top-8 finish, placing ninth with a time of 14:15.57.
Eli Winter scored the final four points for the team, finishing fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 20.61m (67-7.5).
Amene will look to defend his 400-meter dash title in tomorrow's finals after finishing second in the preliminaries with a time of 46.53.
McFarland (4:04.70), Foster (4:14.49), and Riley Flemington (4:14.52) will compete in the mile finals, while Camden Law (1:48.89) will run in the 800-meter finals.
The Maize and Blue will close out the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, Feb. 24.
