LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Four University of Michigan men's gymnastics team members were in action at the USA Gymnastics-sanctioned Winter Cup meet Friday through Sunday (Feb. 23-25) at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
Graduate assistant coach Cameron Bock earned a spot on the United States Senior National team due to his performance at the event. Sophomore Landen Blixt also held onto his spot on the senior development team.
Paul Juda did not compete and Fred Richard did not make the trip to the competition due to load management. The pair held their spots on the team due to their medal at the most recent world championships.
Senior Javier Alfonso excelled on his signature event, still rings. After scoring a 14.100 on day one, he improved the mark to a 14.550 and took third place. He added a 27.500 on floor exercise to place seventh.
Graduate student Crew Bold took seventh on parallel bars (28.350). Blixt placed 20th in the all-around (151.700), and was propped up by a 27.350 on floor exercise to take eighth on the event.
Bock placed fourth in the all-around with a two-day score of 163.850 to earn a spot on the U.S. Senior National Team. His top event was pommel horse where he was sixth with a 27.350.
Junior Rithik Puri competed on day one of the competition, scoring a 13.550 on pommel horse, 13.300 on floor exercise and a 12.700 on high bar.
Full-team competition resumes Saturday (March 2), as the No. 4 Wolverines host No. 1 Oklahoma at 1 p.m. inside Cliff Keen Arena.
