ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan field hockey head coach Marcia Pankratz announced Wednesday (Feb. 28) the addition of Leah Settipane to her coaching staff as an assistant coach. An NFHCA All-American with five years of collegiate coaching experience, Settipane will work directly with the Wolverines' goalkeepers.
"We are thrilled to welcome Leah to our coaching staff," said Pankratz. "She brings great coaching experience and a strong pedigree to Ann Arbor, from her playing days at Boston College to working under and alongside Olympian Michelle Vittese at Temple. Our goalkeepers will benefit tremendously from her insight and expertise -- from someone who has been in their shoes. We're excited to get started this spring."
Settipane joins the Michigan program after three seasons at Temple (2021-23), where she worked closely with the Owls' goalkeepers, including 2023 All-Big East honoree Molly Frey. Temple posted a goals-against average of 1.30 or lower the last two seasons and a save percentage around .700. In 2022, the Owls saw their best RPI finish (23) since 2014, allowed the fewest penalty corners (74) since 2006 and fewest goals (24) since 2004. Frey finished the season ranked 15th in the NCAA with a 1.20 GAA.
Settipane also previously served as an assistant coach at Delaware (2019) and her alma mater, Boston College (2018), and has coaching experience with USA Field Hockey Futures, Worcester State and Hockey Fun.
As a student-athlete and four-year starting goalkeeper at Boston College (2012-15), Settipane remains the program's all-time winningest goalkeeper with 48 career wins. She earned NFHCA second team All-America honors as a senior (2015) and was a two-time NFHCA Northeast All-Region honoree (2014, '15). She also earned All-ACC recognition in 2014. Settipane still holds the ninth-best save percentage in program history (.750) and ranks third in career shutouts (15.1) and ninth in goals-against average (1.88).
A native of East Greenwich, R.I., Settipane earned her bachelor's degree in communications from Boston College in 2016 and added Master of Business Management (Entrepreneurship) from Durham University in 2017.
