ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team will return home to take on No. 19 Colorado on Saturday (March 2) at noon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Notes
• Michigan heads into week four ranked 6th nationally after earning its second straight victory over a ranked opponent in the 2024 campaign.
• The Wolverines earned their biggest win in program history when they topped then-No. 4 Denver, 8-4, in U-M's home opener. It marked just the second time in program history that Michigan has defeated a top-five program with the first coming in 2022 against then-No. 5 Notre Dame.
• Junior starting goalkeeper Erin O'Grady was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after earning her fourth win in the cage this season and second over a ranked opponent. O'Grady made nine saves to record her fourth game with eight or more saves in the cage this season, and gave up just three goals for a 2.76 goals against average. The junior goalie leads the nation in goals-against average and save percentage, and ties for 16th nationally in saves after three weeks of play.
• Junior Jill Smith recorded six goals in the Wolverines' comeback win over Arizona State (Feb. 27), including three in the final quarter of the game.
• Senior Maddie Burns and Smith were named to the 2024 Tewaaraton Watch List for the second straight season. Burns has led a defense that has given up just nine goals in three games, while Smith paces the offense with 12 points (9 goals, 3 assists).
• Head coach Hannah Nielsen enters her seventh season at the helm of the Michigan program and has brought the team to new heights during her coaching tenure. Nielsen has led U-M to three NCAA Tournament appearances including back-to-back years in 2022 and 2023. Nielsen's squads have shattered the Michigan record book in her seven seasons, while she has also coached four players who were Tewaaraton Award nominees.
