ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team (15-9, 6-6 Big Ten) closes out a two-game homestand on Saturday (Feb. 10) at 2 p.m. against Rutgers (7-18, 1-11 Big Ten) at Crisler Center. The game is Michigan's pink game and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.
Notes
• Michigan is playing in its annual Pink Game, set to wear maize uniforms with pink trim and pink accessories. Michigan will honor a group of breast cancer survivors who will introduce the starting lineup and meet with the team prior to the game. It is the second time U-M will wear pink this year, wearing it during its 80-75 win at Penn State (Feb. 3).
• Michigan is looking for a bounce back after dropping a 65-59 contest to Nebraska last time out (Feb. 6). U-M is 6-2 following a loss this season.
• U-M is trying for its first season sweep of an opponent in Big Ten play. U-M faces Rutgers (1-0), Michigan State (0-1), Ohio State (1-0), Nebraska (0-2) and Illinois (1-1) twice this season.
• There are three players with Michigan ties currently competing in Olympic qualifying action as the 2024 Olympics draw closer. Assistant coach for player development Ariel Atkins is playing for USA Basketball, which has already qualified for the Olympics by virtue of winning the 2022 World Cup. Alumna Cyesha Goree (2012-15) is representing Hungary, with incoming freshman Syla Swords playing for Canada. Swords and Goree are playing in the same group, with three of the four teams competing in Hungary qualifying for the 2024 Olympics.
• Michigan is looking for its first season sweep of the season after getting a 56-50 win at Rutgers on Jan. 21. Michigan got 25 points from Laila Phelia, who found Lauren Hansen for a corner triple with less than a minute remaining to seal the game. Michigan now leads the all-time series with Rutgers, 7-6.
• Michigan alumna Shimmy Gray Miller will be on the call for the Big Ten Network. Gray Miller earned four letters at Michigan (1991-94), ranking 12th all-time with 146 steals, 34th in rebounding (452) and 65th in scoring (570).
• Four of Michigan's starters have upped their scoring average in Big Ten play. Phelia is averaging 17.8 points per game in conference play, up from her season average of 16.1 points per game. Lauren Hansen is up to 12.2 points per game from 11.6 points per game, with Jordan Hobbs in double figures at 10.6 points per game from 9.3 points per game. Chyra Evans rounds out the quartet, up to 6.8 points per game in Big Ten action from 6.1 points per game in the regular season.
• It has been a simple equation for Michigan this season -- scoring leads to winning. U-M is averaging just 56.9 points per game in its nine losses, down from its season average of 69.3 points per game. Michigan also has allowed 73.2 points per game in its losses, up from its season average of 61.5 points per game. In wins, U-M is up to 76.8 points per game while allowing just 54.4.
