
Amene Sets 400-Meter Record at Tiger Paw Invitational; Multiple Wolverines Compete at Windy City Invitational

The University of Michigan men's track and field team competed in two meets on Friday (Feb. 9) at the Tiger Paw Invitational hosted by Clemson and the Windy City Invitational hosted by Wisconsin in Chicago, Ill.
Tiger Paw Invitational
Dubem Amene was the lone Wolverine to compete at Clemson, breaking the 400-meter dash program record (45.75) for a fifth-place finish. Amene previously set the record in 2022 (46.04).
Windy City Invitational
Tianhao Wei (6.93) and Amit Rutman (7.02) both qualified for the 60-meter dash preliminaries after finishing third and seventh, respectively. In the preliminaries, Dante Bassham (6.89) finished 12th while Wei (6.95) finished 18th and Rutman (7.03) finished 23rd.
In the 800-meter run invite, Miles Brown earned a third-place finish with a season-best time of 1:48.53.
Jack Kelke saw a personal-best time of 14:16.95 to finish third while Kyler McNatt finished fourth (14:19.00) in the 5000-meter run open. In the 5000-meter run invite, Owen MacKenzie set a personal best of 13:54.68 and finished second. Luke Venhuizen finished sixth with a time of 14:13.99.
The throwers had a solid day, with Eli Winter's personal best of 20.57m (67-6.0) earning him a sixth-place finish in the weight throw. Zane Forist saw a season-best mark of 18.94m (62-1.75) for a 16th place finish and Jake Steslicki set a personal-best mark of 18.90m (62-0.25) to finish 17th. Winter's mark comes in at No. 6 in program history while Steslicki's comes in at No. 8.
The Maize and Blue will close out the weekend at three meets: the Windy City Invitational, the Tiger Paw Invitational, and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 10).
