
Future Wolverine Brooks Named Mr. Basketball in Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball incoming freshman guard Durral Brooks was announced as the 44th recipient of the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award for the State of Michigan on Monday (March 11).
Brooks, a senior at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, is averaging 26.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. He helped the Cougars to a 20-5 record and a spot in the MHSAA Division 2 quarterfinal Tuesday (March 12) against Grand Rapids Christian.
Along with fellow four-star guard Christian Anderson Jr., Brooks signed his National Letter of Intent for the 2024-25 season on Nov. 8 after a junior season in which he averaged 20.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.
In his career at Catholic Central, Brooks led his team to a state championship his freshman season (2020-21) along with another MHSAA Division 2 State Finals appearance in 2021-22. He earned first-team All-State honors from the Associated Press, the Detroit Free Press, and the Detroit News as a junior. As a sophomore, he was named AP All-State first team and was also named to the Detroit Free Press and Detroit News All-State second team.
Brooks joins an illustrious list of former Wolverines who were awarded Mr. Basketball for the State of Michigan. He is the 12th U-M player since 1981 with this honor, the last being Isaiah Livers in 2017.
