
Wolverines to Head to the Land of 10,000 Lakes to Start Postseason

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's basketball team will begin its second season on Wednesday (March 13), heading to Minneapolis, Minn., for the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Tournament. The 14th-seeded Wolverines will face 11th-seed Penn State in the first round at the Target Center. Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 8 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on Peacock with Noah Eagles, Robbie Hummel and Zora Stephenson on the call.
Notes
• Michigan holds a 29-22 (25-21*) record in the Big Ten Tournament, winning three titles (1998*, 2017 & 2018).
• This will be the fourth Big Ten Tournament meeting between Michigan and Penn State -- with all coming in the first round. U-M is currently 1-2 against the Nittany Lions.
• Michigan holds a 39-16 all-time record vs. Penn State, having lost its last two to the Nittany Lions.
• Earlier this season (Jan. 7, 2024), despite a first half dominated by the Wolverines, U-M could not maintain its halftime advantage (37-27) as Penn State rallied to defeat the Maize and Blue, 79-73, at the Palestra in downtown Philadelphia. Terrance Williams II led U-M with a career-best 24 points, while Olivier Nkamhoua added 13 points and nine rebounds.
• Michigan averages 8.1 three-point field goals per game and has seven games with 10-plus three-pointers with a season-best 13 against McNeese (Dec. 29). U-M has three Wolverines with 40-plus three-pointers -- Dug McDaniel (55), Williams (52) and Nimari Burnett (49). They combined for 156 of 251 long-range buckets made this season (62 percent).
• Burnett is the only Wolverine to start all 31 games. In fact, Burnett and Tarris Reed Jr. are the only Wolverines to play in all 31 games.
• McDaniel has led U-M in scoring the entire season (16.6 ppg). He has 24 of his 25 games scoring in double figures including a team-best six games of 20-plus points and two of 30-plus -- a career-high 33 at Oregon (Dec. 2; OT) and vs. Florida (Dec. 19; 2OT).
• McDaniel leads U-M in assists (4.6 apg) for the second straight season. He has 13 games with five-plus assists (22 in career) and twice has dished a season-high eight dimes -- UNC Asheville (Nov. 7) and vs. Stanford (Nov. 23).
• With 12.3 points per game, Williams has doubled his production from any of his prior three seasons. He previous best was 6.0 per game in 2022-23. With 23 double-figure games, Williams has doubled his prior total (10).
• Reed has more than doubled his scoring from a season ago -- 3.4 to 8.9 ppg. He has 12 double-figure games, including a career high of 20 points against #14 Illinois (Jan. 18) -- going 8-for-10 from the field and 4-for-4 on free throws.
• Reed is tied for the U-M lead (Nkamhoua) with six 10-plus rebounding games, including Reed's career high of 15 against Rutgers (Feb. 3). He leads U-M with 7.1 rebounds per game.
• Will Tschetter has shot above 50-plus percent from long range the entire season. He is at 53.8 percent (28-for-52). Last season, he was 5-for-20 (25 percent).
