ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team capped off its regular-season finale with a 49.725 on floor exercise behind a perfect 10 from Gabby Wilson and a 9.975 from Sierra Brooks but ultimately fell to No. 9 Denver 197.750-197.550 on Friday (March 15) at Crisler Center.
Brooks paced U-M in the all-around with a 39.700 with two 9.950s (uneven bars and balance beam) and a 9.975 on floor, while Reyna Guggino won her second straight vault title with a 9.950 and Wilson won the floor title with a 10.0.
Carly Bauman, Guggino, Paige Thaxton and Wilson all tied career bests on floor, while the Wolverines scored a 49.475 on the beam with a 9.925 from Bauman and a 9.950 from Brooks.
Guggino paced the Wolverines with a stuck landing and a 9.950, while Jenna Mulligan earned a 9.825 and Wilson notched a 9.875 as Michigan went into the second rotation with a 49.250.
Brooks won a share of the uneven bars title, leading U-M with a 9.950. Jacey Vore and Wilson led off the rotation with matching 9.825s as the Wolverines trailed Denver 98.725-98.350 at the halfway point of the meet.
U-M put together a solid beam rotation with a team score of 49.475 behind a team-best 9.950 from Brooks and a 9.925 from Bauman. Wilson and Vore once again posted matching 9.875s on the beam and Guggino scored a 9.850 as Michigan went into the final rotation with a team score of 147.825.
U-M's floor team continued to impress the crowd, scoring a 49.725 with a 10.0 from Wilson and a 9.975 from Brooks. Bauman led off the rotation, tying a career-high 9.925 and Mulligan scored a 9.900. Guggino also tied a career-best 9.925 in the three spot, and Thaxton tied a career-high 9.875.
Michigan competes for its 28th Big Ten Championship next Saturday (March 23) at 5:30 p.m. inside Michigan State's Jenison Fieldhouse. The meet will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
