
Michigan to Seek Program's 28th Big Ten Championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team travels to East Lansing, Mich., in search of its 28th Big Ten Championship title on Saturday (March 23) at Jenison Fieldhouse. The Wolverines will compete in the second session at 5:30 p.m. along with No. 9 Michigan State, No. 15 Minnesota and No. 16 Ohio State. The meet will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network with Dean Linke and former U-M gymnast Olivia Karas on the call.
Michigan earned the No. 2 seed at the Big Ten Championships and will start on vault then move to uneven bars for the second rotation. The Wolverines will then compete on balance beam in the third rotation and will close out the championship on floor exercise.
Notes
• The Wolverines head into the postseason ranked No. 10 nationally, and is No. 4 on floor, No. 10 on beam and No. 14 on uneven bars and vault.
• U-M will be competing for its 28th Big Ten Championship, by far the most of any school in the conference. Next on the list are Minnesota and Ohio State with six and five, respectively.
• Head coach Bev Plocki has the most championships by any coach in Big Ten gymnastics history with 26. Larry Cox, former Ohio State head coach, is second with five. The 26 titles topped Indiana's James (Doc) Counsilman for the most by any coach in any sport in Big Ten history.
• Michigan also leads the conference with 111 individual champions, 62 more than Minnesota in second place. The 111 championships include 93 event titles and 18 all-around victories.
• Last season, Abby Heiskell won the all-around and beam titles and shared the uneven bars title with Carly Bauman, Sierra Brooks and Natalie Wojcik, while Gabby Wilson won a share of the vault title. The Wolverines also scored just the second-ever 198.000 in Big Ten Championship history.
