ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Graduate student Sierra Brooks of the University of Michigan women's gymnastics team was named the 2024 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year on Friday (March 22), the conference announced following the conclusion of the Big Ten Championships.
The honor is the third consecutive for Brooks, who joins Lexy Ramler (Minnesota), Marie Roethlisberger (Minnesota) and fellow U-M standout Beth Wymer as the only four gymnasts in Big Ten history to earn the award on three occasions.
Brooks and Wymer are accompanied by eight other Wolverines to have received the honor: Sarah Cain (1997, 2000), Wendy Marshall (1996), Elise Ray (2005), Lindsey Bruck (2008), Kaylee Botterman (2011), Joanna Sampson (2013), Nicole Artz (2017) and Paige Zaziski (2018).
Brooks is just the second Wolverine in program history to earn All-Big Ten first team honors five times in her career as she returned this season for her fifth year of eligibility. The Plainfield, Ill., native was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week seven times and earned 22 event titles in the 2024 season. Brooks recorded 28 scores of 9.900 or better in her final season and had one perfect 10.0 on floor exercise, while also scoring six 9.975s.
She currently ranks seventh nationally in the all-around, fifth on floor, 12th on balance beam, 15th on uneven bars and 27th on vault, while leading the conference in the all-around, bars and beam and ranking third on floor and fifth on vault.
Outside of the gym, Brooks is pursuing her master's in business analytics after earning her bachelor's in business administration from the Ross School of Business in 2023.
Brooks and the rest of the Michigan women's gymnastics team will compete in the NCAA Regionals at Crisler Center on Thursday, April 4 with the final on Saturday, April 6.
