ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team completed its 2023-24 season on Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium, finishing 12th at the NCAA Championships with 147.5 points.
Casey Chung led off the morning session in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a 1:55.36 to finish 42nd overall. In the 100-yard freestyle, Stephanie Balduccini earned a spot in the consolation final with a time of 47.54. Lindsay Flynn just missed out on a second swim, taking 17th with a mark of 47.76 seconds. Claire Newman took 40th by clocking a 48.55. Devon Kitchel secured 39th in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:11.27. Hannah Bellard and Katie Crom closed out the trials with the 200-yard butterfly. Bellard placed 12th to earn a consolation final berth, and Crom took 28th with a mark 1:56.03.
Kathryn Shanley took part in the 1,650 free finals, finishing 35th with a time of 16:17.25. Balduccini won the consolation final in the 100 free with a time of 47.04 to close out a strong NCAA Championships debut for the freshman. Bellard hit the pool for 200 fly consolation final and took 11th overall with a time of 1:53.68. Balduccini, Flynn, Brady Kendall and Claire Newman closed out the championships in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet took fourth overall with a mark of 3:09.47 to close out the 2023-24 campaign.
