ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will make its 33rd appearance in the NCAA Regional when it hosts the event at Crisler Center, April 3-6, competing against eight other teams for two spots in the NCAA Championship.
The Wolverines will compete in the first session of the second round Thursday, April 4, at 1 p.m. against No. 8 Alabama, No. 23 Kent State and No. 25 Penn State. The meet is set to air on ESPN+. Should the Wolverines finish in the top two of their second-round session, they will advance to the NCAA Regional Final set for Saturday (April 6) at 5 p.m.
Michigan will start on the floor and move to the vault for the second rotation. The Wolverines will then compete on the uneven in the third rotation and close out on the beam.
Notes
• The Wolverines head into the NCAA Regional ranked No. 11 nationally and rank inside the top 15 in all four events. Michigan ranks fourth on floor, 13th on beam and 14th on uneven bars and vault.
• This marks the 32nd consecutive year that head coach Bev Plocki has led the Wolverines to an NCAA appearance. They have gone on to advance to the NCAA Championship in 26 of the previous 32 seasons. Prior to Plocki, the Wolverines only competed in the NCAA Championship one time, winning the NCAA Regional and placing 10th overall in 1982.
• Michigan has had at least one individual event winner in 12 of the last 13 regionals as Naomi Morrison (vault), Sierra Brooks (floor) and Natalie Wojcik (uneven bars) all captured individual event titles in 2023.
• Brooks and Gabby Wilson combined for six WCGA regular-season All-America citations. Wilson was a first-team honoree on the floor, bringing her career total to four -- while Brooks was a first-team honoree on the floor and a second-team honoree on vault, uneven bars, beam and in the all-around, bringing her career total to 15 regular-season All-America citations.
• Brooks was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year for the third time in her career as she led the conference in the all-around, bars and beam -- and ranking third on floor and fifth on vault. The honor is the third consecutive for Brooks, who joins Lexy Ramler (Minnesota), Marie Roethlisberger (Minnesota) and fellow U-M standout Beth Wymer as the only four gymnasts in Big Ten history to earn the award on three occasions.
