
Chun's Hole-in-One, Second-Round 66 Help Wolverines Maintain Third Place at Big Tens

» With a one-under 287 second-round team tally, 37th-ranked Michigan maintained its third position at the Big Ten Championships with a one-under 575 36-hole total at Bulle Rock Golf Course.
» U-M is one of three teams under par after 36 holes, as Michigan State leads at 562 (-14) and Indiana is second at 573 (-3). All three will play together in Subday's final round.
» Playing four-under par over her final four holes, including a hole-in-one on the 17th hole (par 3, 162), Monet Chun's 66 (-6) vaulted her 13 spots to a tie for third (139, -5). She is one shot back of the individual lead.
» Hailey Borja shot a 73 (+1), while Mara Janess had a 75 to keep them in the top 20 individually. Borja is tied for 13th with an even-par 144, while Janess is tied for 19th at 146.

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. -- Highlighted by a hole-in-one and second-round 66 (-6) from senior Monet Chun, the 37th-ranked University of Michigan women's golf team tallied a one-under 287 total Saturday (April 20) to maintain its third-place position with a 575 (-1) 36-hole total at the Big Ten Championships at the Bulle Rock Golf Course.
With a birdie on three of the first four second-round holes, Chun turned two-under after her lone bogey of the round on the ninth hole. Rattling off five straight pars, she added two more birdies as well as a hole-in-one on the 17th (162 yards, 5-iron) to close the final four holes at four-under, helping her etch a to-date championship-best 66 (-6).
With her two-day 139 (-5) total, Chun jumped 13 positions and is tied for third, just one shot back of the individual lead shared by Indiana's Caroline Craig and MSU's Katie Lu at 138 (-6). Chun won the 2022 conference title two years ago with a 205 (-8) total. Chun has seven of her 11 Big Ten rounds at or below par, with six sub-par tallies.
Chun's ace on the 17th hole marks the second Wolverine to record a hole-in-one in as many days at the conference tournament. Sophomore Mara Janess used an 8-iron from 142 yards in the first round to ace the seventh hole.
With a second-round 73 (+1), fifth-year senior Hailey Borja remains among the top 15 as her even-par 144 36-hole total puts her tied for 13th. After her career low opening-round 71 (-1), Janess followed with a 75 and is tied for 19th at 146 (+2) in her first conference championships.
Michigan State maintained its double-digit lead with its second round 283 (-5), helping the Spartans to a 562 (-14) two-day total and 11-shot lead. With a 285 (-3), Indiana moved into second at 573 (-3), while the Maize and Blue are third at 575 (-1). All three will play in the final round together on Sunday (April 21) in the final wave off the first tee at 10:18 a.m.
