ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- For the third consecutive season, the No. 10-ranked University of Michigan hockey team earned its place in the Frozen Four. This will mark the Wolverines' 28th appearance in the Frozen Four -- an NCAA record. Michigan will take on top-ranked Boston College in the national semifinal on Thursday (April 11) at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. The game will air on ESPN2.
Notes
• Michigan leads the series with Boston College, 12-7, dating back to the very first meeting in the 1948 NCAA semifinal. The Wolverines lead 6-4 on neutral ice and have won four of the six NCAA Tournament games with BC, including the 1998 NCAA Championship game at the FleetCenter in Boston. In five Frozen Four contests ('48, '50, '54, '98, '01), the Wolverines have gone 4-1 against BC.
• This year's NCAA tournament bid for the Wolverines is the 41st in program history. That figure is a record, as are Michigan's 28 Frozen Four appearances and nine national titles.
• This year's Frozen Four field has combined for 150 all-time bids and 28 national championships.
• Michigan won the St Louis Regional knocking off No. 5 North Dakota, 4-3, and No. 4-ranked and top-seeded Michigan State, 5-2. Dylan Duke was named the Most Valuable Player after scoring four goals and one assist. Joining him on the all-tournament team were Gavin Brindley, Frank Nazar III, T.J. Hughes, Marshall Warren and Jake Barczewski.
• Warren will compete against his former team for the first time. A four-year letterwinner at Boston College, Warren was team captain in 2022-23. He played in 130 games, scoring 20 goals and 37 assists. Warren has played the most games of any player in the Frozen Four, sitting at 170 games played.
• Duke has the most goals of any player in the Frozen Four with 54 total, one ahead of Cutter Gauthier. He also leads the field with 21 power-play goals and 10 game-winning goals. Barczewski leads the Frozen Four goaltenders in games played (136), wins (64), saves (3,712) shutouts (8) and assists (5).
• Michigan's power-play unit is converting on 34.5 percent (50 of 145) of its chances to lead all of college hockey. It's the best rate since Harvard finished the 1987 season with 35.9 percent.
• U-M's sophomore class has produced 297 total points. The second years, who have more points as a class than 36 entire D1 teams, are responsible for 63.3 percent of the offense. The sophomore class has lost one member with Adam Fantilli signing with Columbus after his Hobey Baker award-winning rookie campaign.
• The Frozen Four has been held six times in St. Paul and three times at the Xcel Energy Center, prior to this season. Michigan has competed in every Frozen Four at the Xcel Energy Center, finishing as national runner-up in 2011 and a semifinalist in 2002 and 2018.
