
Jarema Wins Steeplechase Bronze; U-M Tied for Fourth at B1G Outdoor Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Caleb Jarema of the University of Michigan men's track and field team took home bronze in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday (May 11) during day two of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships held at U-M Track and Field Stadium. The Wolverines sit tied for fourth place (22 points) with Iowa; Nebraska is in first place with 57 points.
Jarema led in the steeplechase through the first 1,400-meters before eventual winner Logan Measner of Wisconsin pulled ahead and Jarema fell to third. The Pinckney, Mich., native moved into second with one lap to go, but Andrew Nolan of Michigan State had a late surge in the final 100 meters to take silver. Jarema finished with a time of 8:45.42 and earned six points for U-M.
Jack Spamer scored two points for the Maize and Blue in the steeplechase, finishing seventh with a season-best time of 8:57.02. Jozef Meyers placed ninth (9:03.02).
Three Wovlerines earned a spot in Sunday's (May 12) finals, Miles Brown (1:49.02) and Nick Foster (1:49.45) in the 800-meter run and Dubem Amene (45.68) in the 400-meter dash.
Zane Forist finished 14th in the shot put with a mark of 17.55m (57 feet, 7 inches), while Jake Wall finished 12th in the long jump with a mark of 7.21m (23-8).
The Big Ten Outdoor Championships will conclude at U-M Track and Field Stadium on Sunday, with the pole vault final.
