
Wolverines to Host Akron in Final Home Game of Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team (28-24) will host Akron (14-36) in its final home game of the year Tuesday (May 14). The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the game will stream live on B1G+.
Notes
• Michigan is coming off a Big Ten Weekend series win against Purdue to move into a three-way tie for third place in the conference. After dropping a closely contested game on Friday (May 10), U-M responded with a 7-6 walk-off win on Saturday to even the series. In the rubber match, the Wolverines used four home runs to take the series in an 8-4 win.Â
• Collin Priest had a huge weekend and hit .545 with a 1.091 slugging percentage. He tallied four extra-base hits including three in the win on Saturday for a new career high. In the Saturday win, he also set new career highs in doubles (2) and hits (4) in one game. He added a home run in the midweek contest against CMU to bring his season total up to eight which is fourth all-time by a freshman in U-M history since 1960.
• Over the last ten games, Stephen Hrustich has found his swing and leads the team with a slash line of .395/.469/.842. He has five home runs in his last 10 after a drought of 16 games. He leads the team in home runs on the season with 14 and is second in average hitting .313.  Hrustich also leads the team and is second in the conference in walks with 47 on the season. His 47 walks are tied for third all-time in a single season with 51 being the record set by Jesse Franklin in 2019.
• Kyle Dernedde had a strong week hitting .357 over the past four games and added his second home run of the season on Sunday against the Boilermakers. He also recorded 9 putouts and 13 assists at shortstop this weekend for a perfect fielding percentage. On the season, he is sixth on the team in batting average and leads the team in assists with 167 on the season. Dernedde is the only player to start every game this season for the Wolverines.
• Mitch Voit is hitting .303 in the team's last 10 games with three home runs and two doubles. On the season, Voit is fourth in average hitting .291 with 10 home runs and 20 doubles. He has a hit in 7 of his last eight games. His 20 doubles rank first in the conference and 17th nationally and are six of the all-time single-season Michigan record. Â
• Will Rogers started all three games at catcher against the Boilermakers and hit .333 with a double, triple and home run. Rogers was named to the John Olerud Two-Way POY watch list alongside Voit a couple of weeks ago. On the season, Rogers has a .340 on-base percentage and a 5.59 ERA in 37 innings pitched. Â
• After missing some time due to injury, Jonathan Kim has returned to the lineup and has appeared in the last 11 straight games with eight consecutive starts. Since his comeback, Kim is hitting .342 with nine runs and five RBIs. On the season, he is hitting .313 with 10 extra base hits.
• In his fifth season, Jacob Denner has moved up the career ranks. After two appearances over the weekend, he has 90 in his career which is third all-time. He passed Evan Hill in career innings to move to fifth all-time and sits at 274.1 in his career. Denner recorded three strikeouts over the weekend, breaking a tie with Tommy Henry for sixth all-time and is now just two behind Brett Adcock, who sits in fifth at 256.
• Even without turning a double play over the weekend, U-M still leads the nation in turning two with 56 on the season. Rice sits in second with 54 in 52 games. Dernedde has been involved in 39 this season with Mack Timbrook being involved in 38. The Wolverines have passed 16 of the past 24 year's season total.
• Akron sits at 14-36 and is coming off getting swept by Kent State over the weekend. Against common opponents, the Zips are 8-9 while Michigan is 9-5 against the same teams. All-time, the Wolverines are 2-2 against Akron and have lost the last two including the first home contest in the all-time series last season, 11-10.
