Notes
• Michigan is sixth in the conference standings with an 11-7 record but is only two games out of first place. After a slow start, U-M is 19-9 since conference play began and has won five of their six conference series. The Wolverines are heading into the weekend after a comeback win against Michigan State on Sunday and a midweek win against Central Michigan which saw all nine Wolverine starters tally a hit.
• Jonathan Kim has returned to the lineup after missing the start of conference play due to an injury. Since his return, he has started the last five games and is second on the team over the past 10 games in batting average at .375. He also has added six runs and two home runs. On the season, Kim is hitting .318 which would be second on the team if he had enough at-bats to qualify. He has set a new career high with five home runs this season.
• With his eight home runs, Stephen Hrustich is tied for eighth in the Big Ten and has homered in three of his last five games. He is second on the team in batting average (.301) and leads the team in slugging percentage (.595). Hrustich is just one of two players (Kyle Dernedde) to appear in all 49 games this season.
• Timbrook had an breakout April, slashing .500/.557/.654 which paced the team over the month. He now leads the team in batting average (.335), raising it by 120 points since the start of conference play. He is hitting .418 in conference games which is fourth in the Big Ten among players with at least 40 at-bats.
• Mitch Voit has 20 doubles which is tied for ninth on U-M's single-season list, six short of tying the record of 26 set by Bryan Besco in 1997. Over his last 10 games, Voit has eight runs on eight hits -- six of them going for extra bases. He is batting .291 with 30 extra-base hits and a team-leading 56 hits. He also leads the team in total bases (105) and is second in RBI (38).
• Kurt Barr leads the team in earned-run average at 3.49 and is 5-2 on the season. He is holding opponents to a .221 batting average with 42 strikeouts. In conference games, Barr is 4-3 with a 3.63 ERA which ranks fifth in the conference among pitchers with at least 30 innings pitched. He earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors after a complete game win over Minnesota on April 13.
• Jacob Denner has been a reliable asset for the Wolverines this season, leading the team in appearances (22) and strikeouts (52). He also has a 6-4 record with four saves on the year. In conference games, he is 3-2 with a 2.13 ERA and one save. His ERA is second in the conference among players with at least 30 innings pitched.
• In his fifth year, Denner has moved up the program's career lists in three categories. He is now alone in third place with 88 appearances after making two over the weekend to break a tie with John Arvai. Denner passed four players in innings pitched over the weekend with nine innings across two games and now sits in sixth place with 267.1 career innings. Denner also tied Tommy Henry for sixth place with 251 career strikeouts. He is five away from tying Brett Adcock and entering the top five.
• The Maize and Blue leads the nation in double plays with 56 this season; this weekend's opponent, Purdue, is tied for third with 50. Michigan turned three against CMU and has at least one double play in 11 of its last 12 contests. Mack Timbrook and Dernedde rank second in the nation in double-play combos, turning 39 and 38, respectively.
• Purdue is tied for second in the conference standings with a 12-6 Big Ten record and is 32-17 overall. The Boilermakers had swept three straight Big Ten series but dropped last weekend's series to Indiana. Purdue rebounded with a midweek win at UIC on Tuesday (May 7), winning 11-9. Michigan leads 150-66 in the all-time series against the Boilermakers and is 74-27 in Ann Arbor. Most recently, U-M lost a series in 2022 in West Lafayette, Ind., and has not played Purdue in Ann Arbor since 2015.
