SPARKS, Md. -- Five University of Michigan women's lacrosse student-athletes -- Senior Maddie Burns, juniors Kaylee Dyer, Erin O'Grady and Jill Smith, and sophomore Grace Callahan -- all received USA Lacrosse All-America recognition, the association announced Thursday (May 9).
Burns and O'Grady earned first-team honors, Smith was named to the third team, and Callahan and Dyer received honorable mention distinction.
Michigan was one of just four schools to put two first-team honorees on the list. The honor is the third of Burns' career after two honorable mention nods, while it is the second of Smith's career and the first for Callahan, Dyer and O'Grady.
Burns and Callahan help lead a backline that leads the nation in scoring defense, while goalie O'Grady paces the nation in goals-against average and save percentage heading into the NCAA Tournament. Burns set the Michigan ground balls record with her 101st and sits at 104. Smith is Michigan's all-time goals leader with 129, while Dyer became the seventh Wolverine in program history to eclipse 100 career points.
The Wolverines will open the NCAA Tournament on Thursday (May 10) at 4 p.m. against Mercer at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Ind., on the campus of Notre Dame.
