
Lydia Johnson Named to Canada U-21 Squad

OTTAWA, Canada -- Lydia Johnson of the University of the University of Michigan volleyball program was named one of 12 members of the U-21 NORCECA Continental Championship team roster, Volleyball Canada recently announced.
Johnson played in 41 sets as a freshman with seven match starts for the Wolverines last season, tallying 49 kills and adding 14 service aces in her first season with the team. Defensively, Johnson collected 24 digs and 23 total blocks -- one solo and 22 block assists. She registered a career-high nine kills in a match against Colorado State on Sept. 2.
Johnson becomes the first Wolverine to represent Canada in a national tournament and is one of four NCAA players on the squad (Mary Healy, NC State; Ella Piskorzla, Pepperdine; Maëli Cormier, Oregon State).
The NORCECA Continental Championship begins for Canada on Tuesday (June 25) in Toronto, Ontario, with a Group B game against Costa Rica while Mexico and the US Virgin Islands round out the group. The final will take place on Sunday (June 30) in Toronto.
