PARIS, France -- Three-time Olympian and former University of Michigan women's swimmer Siobhán Haughey earned the bronze medal in the 200-meter freestyle on Monday (July 29) inside Paris La Defense Arena.
After entering the final heat with the fourth fastest entry time (1:55.51), Haughey turned on the speed against the best swimmers in the world to secure a place on the podium for the third time in her career. Haughey posted a time of 1:54.55, nearly a second faster than her entry time, to take the bronze behind Australia's Mollie O'Callaghan (gold) and Ariarne Titmus (silver).
Monday marks the first bronze medal for Haughey after taking two silvers in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle events in Tokyo and becoming the first U-M women's swimmer to win two individual medals in the same Olympic Games.
Haughey adds another Olympic medal to a sparkling career, which includes a stellar tenure in Ann Arbor that featured 15 Big Ten championships and 14 All-America citations. She will hit the pool in Paris for one more individual event as she competes in the 100-meter freestyle. Heats and semifinals be contested on Tuesday (July 30) with the final coming on Wednesday (July 31).
