
U-M to be Represented by 15 Swimmers at 2024 Olympics

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifteen current, former and incoming student-athletes from the University of Michigan men's and women's swimming and diving programs will travel to Paris to represent 10 different nations at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Charlie Swanson earned his place on Team USA with a strong performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, Ind., clocking a 59.34-second time in the 100-meter breaststroke and finishing second in the final to punch his ticket to Paris.
Two swimmers will represent Canada in Paris, starting with Olympic medalist and NCAA champion Maggie MacNeil. She will look to defend her gold medal in the 100-meter butterfly after taking first in Tokyo in 2021 with a time of 55.59. Incoming freshman Lorne Wigginton is set to make his Olympic debut after landing on the 4x200-meter freestyle relay team.
U-M will have two representatives from Team Brazil in Paris as Stephanie Balduccini and Eduardo Moraes will compete in relays. Balduccini will take part in her second Olympics as a part of the 4x100 and 4x200-meter freestyle relays while Moraes will hit the pool for the 4x200-meter relay.
Siobhán Haughey and Natalie Kan will make the trek to Paris to compete for Hong Kong. Haughey will be competing in her third Olympics, earning silver medals in the in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle events in Tokyo. Â All-Americans Eitan Ben-Shitrit and Gal Groumi will represent Israel at the Olympics. Groumi earned his second Olympic qualification after competing in the 200-meter IM at the Tokyo Olympics.
Felix Auböck qualified for his third Olympic Games for Austria and will compete in the 200-, 400- and 800-meter freestyle. Incoming freshman Jon Jontvedt will represent Norway when he hits the pool for the 800-meter freestyle. Another 2024 freshman, Rebecca Diaconescu earned her Olympic qualification for Romania and will battle the best in the world in the 200-meter freestyle.
Letitia Sim is set to represent Singapore in the 100-meter breaststroke in Paris. Nikola Acin and Yousuf Al-Matrooshi round the athletes heading to Paris, competing for Serbia and United Arab Emirates, respectively.
Swimming will get underway on July 27 at Paris La Defense Arena and will conclude on Aug. 4.
