ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 22-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team (4-0-1) will start Big Ten action when it hosts Penn State (2-3-0) on Friday (Sept. 13) and Washington (3-1-2) on Monday (Sept. 16) at U-M Soccer Stadium. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts. Friday's match will be streamed live on B1G+, while Sunday's showdown will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
Notes
• Michigan extended its unbeaten run to five games with a solid 2-0 win over Detroit Mercy on Friday (Sept. 6), marking back-to-back two-goal wins for the Maize and Blue.
• The Wolverines check in at No. 22 on the United Soccer Coaches Poll, marking the first time the program has been ranked since the 2020-21 spring season.
• U-M's record of 4-0-1 is its best start since the 2017 season, when the Wolverines captured the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles. Michigan has scored first in all five matches and has tallied eight goals, the most through five matches since the 2020-21 spring campaign.
• Beto Soto leads all Wolverines with seven points (two goals, three assists), notching a goal and an assist in the win over Detroit Mercy. Charlie Lawrence has tallied two goals on the season, tied with Soto for the team lead.
• Bryce Blevins has registered three assists on the season to keep pace with Soto for the high mark on the roster. Blevins notched two helpers in the win over Bowling Green and has started all five games for U-M.
• The back three of Will Baker, Matthew Fisher and Nolan Miller have started all five matches on defense. The Michigan defense has surrendered two goals and has held opposing offenses to under 35 percent in shots on target. Miller scored his first goal of the season against Detroit Mercy with Fisher posting his first assist on the score. The defense has not conceded a goal in the second half so far in 2024.
• Joao Paulo Ramos tallied his first assist of the year on Soto's marker against Detroit Mercy. Seven different Wolverines have registered at least one helper in 2024.
• U-M will meet Penn State for the 32nd time in program history, trailing 11-16-4 in the al-time series. Michigan will go for its first win against the Nittany Lions since the 2017 season.
• The Wolverines and Huskies will battle for the third time and first as conference foes. Washington has taken both previous matches, most recently in 2019 when it bested U-M 1-0 at U-M Soccer Stadium.
• Following the pair of league matches, Michigan will travel for the first time this season when it heads to Los Angeles to face UCLA on Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. PDT.
