ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team opened its 2025 home slate hosting the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 11) at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Corey Royster was just 0.01 seconds shy of tying for the No. 9 60-meter dash mark on the program performers list, posting a time of 6.79 seconds to advance to the finals. Tianhao Wei also advanced to the finals, finishing eighth in the preliminary round with a personal-best time of 6.87. In the finals, Royster finished sixth (6.83) while Wei finished seventh with another personal best (6.85).
The Wolverines went 1-2-5 in the 300-meter dash, with Lawrence Gilliam (34.11), Jack Juds (34.20) and Jacob Koerner (34.49) each posting a personal-best time. Kepler Huntress finished third in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:21.37, while Brendan Herger won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.29. Herger's time comes in at No. 9 on the program performers list.
Trent McFarland's time of 3:58.71 in the mile run was good for the win and the No. 10 time on the program performers list. Camden Law (4:02.83) finished third, shaving nearly seven seconds off his previous personal best. Jonathan Miles (4:05.97), Aiden Sullivan (4:07.20) and Nathan Lopez (4:09.16) finished in fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
In the 3,000-meter run, Nolan Clark finished second with a personal-best 8:17.79.
Making their debut in maize and blue, Liam Kinney won the pole vault (5.00m/16 feet, 4.75 inches), and John McNeil won the high jump (2.11m/6-11).
The throwers had a strong day, seeing five top-three finishes across two events. Zane Forist finished second in the weight throw (18.91m/62-0.50) before winning the shot put with a personal-best mark of 17.89m (58-8.5). Eli Winter won the weight throw with a mark of 19.62m (64-4.5) while Jake Steslicki finished in third (18.55m, 60-10.5) and freshman Josh Huisman placed second in the shot put (16.94m, 55-7.00).
Michigan will remain at home next Saturday (Jan. 18) when it plays host to the Simmons-Harvey Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
