
Wolverines Finish First at Simmons-Harvey Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team earned a first-place finish at home on Saturday (Jan. 18) as the host of the Simmons-Harvey Invitational.
U-M finished first with 105.5 points, Michigan State finished second (102.5) and Purdue finished third (69).
Corey Royster (6.91 seconds) and Amit Rutman (7.00) advanced to the 60-meter dash finals, with Royster finishing third (6.88) and Rutman finishing fifth (7.02). Royster's finals time was just 0.09 seconds shy of tying his personal best.
In the 400-meter dash, Lawrence Gilliam posted a personal-best time of 48.27 to finish second. Nick Butler-Simpson also posted a personal-best time of 48.76 and finished fourth.
Jonathan Miles won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.79, coming 0.29 seconds from tying the No. 10 time on the program performers list. The Wolverines went 1-2-3-4 in the mile, with Henry Johnson finishing first (4:06.21), Nathan Lopez second (4:06.25), Peter Baracco finishing third (4:06.64), and Ian Hill finishing fourth (4:07.85). Johnson, Lopez, and Baracco all record personal-best times.
The throws group continues to be solid, with four top-five finishes across two events. Zane Forist finished third in the shot put with a mark of 17.05 meters (55 feet, 11.25 inches) and Josh Huisman finished fourth with a mark of 16.78m (55-0.75). In the weight throw, Eli Winter placed second (19.55m/64-1.75) while Jake Steslicki placed fourth (18.59m/61-0.00).
U-M will hit the road for the Crossroads of American Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 24-25) in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion.
