ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 11-ranked Ohio State by a score of 188-112 on Saturday (Jan. 18) at Canham Natatorium.
Saturday marks Michigan's first dual-meet win over the Buckeyes since the 2019-20 campaign.
After a comfortable win in the 200-yard medley relay, freshman Jon Jøntvedt maintained momentum with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 9:05.34. Jack Wilkening followed up with a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 47.15 seconds.
Jaeddan Gamilla grabbed his first win of the afternoon in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 53.77. Tyler Ray (1:45.26) and Colin Geer (1:46.46) led the way in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing first and second, respectively.
Bence Szabados returned to winning form with a first-place result in the 50 free, completing two lengths of the pool in 19.87 seconds. Gal Groumi notched his first victory of the meet in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a mark of 43.34.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Eitan Ben-Shitrit took the top spot, registering a time of 1:44.92 to outrace Wilkening. Eduardo Moraes grabbed a win in the 500 free, logging a mark of 4:23.75.
Ray swept the butterfly events, taking first in the 100-yard race with a time of 46.74 just ahead of Groumi. Geer closed out the individual events with a triumph in the 200-yard IM, logging a mark of 1:45.85.
In diving, Cameron Gammage led the field in both events. The senior won the one-meter dive with a score of 389.40 and took first on the three-meter springboard with a tally of 408.68.
Next up, Michigan will host Miami (Ohio) on Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. inside Canham Natatorium for Senior Day and its final regular-season home meet.
