
U-M Set for Friday's Joe Piane Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's cross country team will travel to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday (Oct. 3). The Wolverines will compete in the Blue Division at 10:30 a.m.
Notes
• Michigan holds steady at No. 5 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association regional rankings. The Wolverines sit behind Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Butler and Michigan State.
• The Maize and Blue finished 18th out of 31 teams at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri on Sept. 26, earning 491 points.
• Nathan Lopez led all Wolverine runners in the gold race, placing 38th in his season debut with a new personal best time of 23:14.9.
• Luke Venhuizen also ran his first race of the season, finishing 78th (23:36.4) while Trent McFarland came in 91st (23:44.1).
• Aiden Sullivan paced the Wolverines in the black race with a 33rd-place finish (24:15.6), shaving almost 35 seconds off his previous best. Kyler McNatt posted a 38th-place finish with a 24:20.2 time.
• William Beardsley is expected to make his collegiate debut, while Heath McAllister will make his season debut.
• The Wolverines will look to build momentum on Friday before returning to action at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Oct. 17 in Madison, Wis.
