ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team handled Detroit Mercy, 4-0, on Tuesday night (Oct. 28) at U-M Soccer Stadium.
The victory marked the 10th of the season for the Wolverines, who honored eight seniors and graduate students prior to kickoff. Four different players scored in the win, including Will Baker, who tallied his first career goal, and Nicholas Cassiday, who opened the scoring with his first goal since the 2022 season.
Grayson Elmquist netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season, while Mitar Mitrovic converted his second penalty kick in as many matches.
Detroit Mercy (5-9-2) applied early pressure, but the Wolverine back line held firm to keep the Titans off the board. Cassiday broke through in the 13th minute when Raymundo Mendez played him through on a streaking run. Cassiday took one touch and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give U-M a 1-0 lead.
After Detroit Mercy was reduced to 10 men in the 24th minute, Michigan (10-2-3) controlled possession but was unable to find a second goal before halftime.
The Wolverines put the game out of reach in a six-minute span early in the second half. Mitrovic buried a penalty in the 60th minute to double the lead, Elmquist added a third in the 65th, and Baker followed quickly with a fourth in the 66th.
Behind the steady defensive efforts of Baker and Nolan Miller, Michigan limited Detroit Mercy to just one off-target shot attempt over the final 24 minutes to secure the clean sheet.
Next up, Michigan will close out the home portion of its regular-season schedule when it hosts Wisconsin on Friday (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m. at U-M Soccer Stadium.
