Notes
• Michigan sits at 1-3 in Big Ten play, with its lone conference win coming against No. 10 Minnesota last Wednesday (Oct. 1). The Wolverines' three losses have come to top-ranked Nebraska, No. 7 Wisconsin and Michigan State. In their most recent outing, U-M fell in straight sets to Wisconsin but was competitive throughout the match.
• Ranking 12th nationally and fifth in the Big Ten in team hitting percentage, Michigan features three of the conference's top six individuals in the category. Serena Nyambio leads the Wolverines and ranks second in the Big Ten and 19th nationally, hitting .426 with 91 kills and 16 errors on 176 swings. Jenna Hanes ranks third in the conference at .415 (83 kills, 15 errors, 164 attacks), while Lydia Johnson is sixth at .392 (123 kills, 23 errors, 255 attacks).
• Morgan Burke has run a 5-1 offense over the last three matches, recording 102 assists, 31 digs, six kills and five blocks. She tallied double-doubles against No. 10 Minnesota and No. 7 Wisconsin. The junior has appeared in 68 matches, including 58 consecutive starts, and has led Michigan in assists in 59 straight contests.
• Burke became the 10th Wolverine in program history to reach 2,000 career assists, achieving the milestone with her 20th assist against Wisconsin. She now has 2,009 career assists, just 130 shy of tying Lisa Vahi for ninth place all-time.
• In her final season, Nyambio continues to lead Michigan in hitting percentage and blocks, improving upon her numbers from last season. She is hitting .426 with 1.12 blocks per set and has recorded at least two kills in every match, including five or more in 11 of 15 contests. Her career hitting percentage of .305 ranks fifth all-time at Michigan.
• After earning All-Big Ten First Team honors last season, Allison Jacobs ranks fourth in the Big Ten in both kills and kills per set. One of five players in the league with more than 200 kills, she averages 4.16 per set and has reached double figures in 12 of 15 matches, including 35 kills over the last two. Jacobs also ranks third on the team with 90 digs and has added 23 blocks, 18 assists and a career-high 18 aces.
• Johnson has seen expanded playing time this season, appearing in every match after limited action in her first two years. She has already tallied 123 kills this season after totaling 60 across her first two campaigns. Johnson ranks sixth in the Big Ten in hitting percentage and second among players with at least 200 attacks, trailing only Indiana's Avry Tatum.
• Demetrician has started the last eight matches and has recorded double-digit kills in five of those contests, including 15 in the upset win over No. 10 Minnesota. She has surpassed 100 kills for the second straight season, averaging 3.00 per set with 14 blocks, 67 digs and eight aces.
• Maddi Cuchran has been a fixture in the Wolverine lineup under head coach Erin Virtue, appearing in every match of Virtue's tenure (79 straight). She has recorded 169 digs, 70 assists and eight aces so far this season.
• Entering the year with just five sets of experience, Hanes has emerged as one of Michigan's most efficient hitters, appearing in all but four sets this season. She has registered at least four kills in 11 of 15 matches and has a block in every match, with three or more in 11 contests. Hanes' .415 hitting percentage ranks third in the Big Ten.
• No. 20 Indiana (13-1, 4-0 Big Ten) enters the weekend with its highest ranking in program history after wins over Northwestern, Washington, No. 17 USC and No. 24 UCLA. Michigan leads the all-time series 45-42-1, though Indiana has won the last five meetings.
• Iowa (10-6, 1-3 Big Ten) opened conference play with a sweep over Maryland before falling to No. 7 Wisconsin. Last weekend, the Hawkeyes pushed Oregon to five sets but dropped matches to the Ducks and Washington. Michigan leads the all-time series 50-28 and has won four of the last five meetings.
