Notes
• Michigan is the new No. 1 team in the nation this week after sweeping Ohio State last weekend. With a 13-3 overall record, the Wolverines are the No. 1-ranked team for the first time since November 2022.
• The Wolverines sit atop the Big Ten standings with an 8-1 record and 17 points, one more than Wisconsin in second place. Penn State sits third with 13 points while Michigan State is fourth with 12, having played two fewer games.
• Since polls began in 1996, Michigan is 13-14-3 in games when it is ranked No. 1. Since 2021, U-M has gone 3-2 when it has held the top spot -- wins versus Minnesota State (10/16/2021), Minnesota (3/18/2023) and in overtime against MSU (1/17/2025) and losses to Boston College (4/11/2024) and Michigan State (1/18/2025).
• T.J. Hughes was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 25) after a five-point weekend vs. OSU. He had the game-winning goal on Friday night in a 5-2 victory, including two assists. He then added back-to-back goals in an 8-1 rout on Saturday.
• Hughes is one of five players who are averaging more than a point per game as the Wolverines lead the nation in scoring offense at 5.19 goals per game; the next-closest team, Dartmouth, scores 4.33 gpg in 10 fewer games played. Hughes, the team's leading scorer, is followed by the team's leading goal scorer Will Horcoff, Michael Hage, Adam Valentini and Jayden Perron. All five players are in the top 10 in scoring in the Big Ten as well.
• Horcoff leads the conference in goals with 14. Hughes and Hage are tied for fourth in the league with nine, followed by Josh Eernisse's eight goals in seventh place. Eernisse is already at 13 points in 16 games. He put up 10 last season and 11 in his first year at Michigan after a 21-point freshman season at St. Thomas.
• Hage is set to make his 50th career appearance as a Wolverine on Friday at Harvard. He joins fellow classmate Dakoda Rhéaume-Mullen, who hit the marker on Friday against Ohio State. Eleven players on the roster have played 50+ games in their careers.
• Jack Ivankovic has played every minute in net for the Wolverines. He owns a .920 save percentage and a 2.01 goals-against average. His goals saved above average is tops in the nation at +15.6.
• Michigan is 6-2-2 in the all-time series with Harvard, with this being the Wolverines' first visit to Cambridge and the Harvard home rink. Michigan is returning the favor from Harvard's trip to Yost in November 2022, when the teams tied 4-4 on Friday night and Michigan won 4-1 on Saturday. It was during that Saturday game that the Michigan football team returned from Columbus with a victory, with Jim Harbaugh, J.J. McCarthy and others coming on the ice in celebration.
