Wolverines Top Century Mark Against Purdue

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team scored the second-most points against a Big Ten opponent in program history, knocking off Purdue, 104-56, Sunday afternoon (Dec. 7) in the conference opener at Crisler Center. The 48-point margin of victory is the largest for U-M over a Big Ten team.
All 12 players who saw the floor for Michigan (8-1, 1-0 B1G) found the scoring column, with five players in double digits. Olivia Olson led the way with 26 points and seven rebounds, setting a new season high in points. Syla Swords followed with 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting, while Mila Holloway and Te'Yala Delfosse each pitched in 13 points. Kendall Dudley reached double figures for the first time in her career, recording 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. U-M shot 58.9 percent (33-for-56) from the floor and set a new program record with 33 made free throws. The Wolverines forced 23 turnovers and turned those into 25 points.
Michigan started fast, hitting its first eight shots from the floor while trailing for only 12 seconds in the contest. With Purdue (5-4, 0-1 B1G)Â trimming the Wolverines' lead to 8-7 in the early going, U-M answered with six straight points from Holloway, Olson and Dudley to regain a 14-7 lead at the 6:44 mark. It was all Michigan from there as U-M led by as many as 17 in the first quarter behind eight points from Holloway.
Michigan pushed its lead to 20, 36-16, in the opening minutes of the second quarter behind a left-wing triple from Alyssa Crockett. Michigan held the Boilermakers scoreless for nearly five minutes in the latter stages of the quarter before Purdue connected on a triple in the closing minute. Olson turned in 13 points in the quarter, sending Michigan to the break with a 56-26 advantage.
U-M put up 28 points in the third quarter, holding Purdue to 15 points for an 84-41 lead after 30 minutes. Olson, Holloway, Swords and Macy Brown each scored five points in the third as U-M went to the line 19 times and converted 14 free throws.
The Wolverines led by as many as 51 points in the final quarter, with contributions coming across the board to secure their 104-56 victory over the Boilermakers. Ten Wolverines scored in the final 10 minutes, with all seven bench players recording at least one point in the frame.
Michigan returns to non-conference action next weekend, hosting Akron on Dec. 13 at noon.
